Wilderness
Solitude: Experiential Learning in the Canadian Rockies
Have you ever spent the night out in the wilderness alone? Do
you know how you would handle it? Learn what you need to have in a basic
wilderness kit to prevent an unexpected wilderness emergency - and what
to do to survive the night out in the woods alone.
This program will prepare you for the final, solo night alone on a
remote location of the ranch. Learn the skills and mental preparation
needed for a solo experience through seminars, demonstrations, and practise.
You'll learn general survival principals, problem analysis, psychological
survival tips, techniques for controlling fear, how the survival situation
plan "STOP" can be used in a survival situation, signal interpretation,
building fire, shelter, and constructing a 24-hour day pack.
This is an excellent program for families, fathers and sons, mothers
and daughters, corporate team building sessions, photographers and hikers.
Anyone of any age can benefit from a few basic survival principals.
Steve Short has spent over 1000 nights on solos and introduced over
5000 youth to the therapeutic value of an overnight in the wilds alone.
He has co-authored six books and is a Wilderness Safety Consultant for
the Government of British Columbia. Steve worked in 'Outward Bound' type
programs introducing troubled youth to canoeing/kayaking, hiking, mountaineering,
and backcountry skiing.
