Valleys and Peaks: Nature Hiking and Photography in the Canadian Rockies
Experience the diversity of the stunning peaks, wildlife and spectacular trails of these majestic mountains while staying on an authentic ranch in the magical grasslands of the southern Alberta foothills. Discover the rugged, yet delicate ecology of the alpine world and learn about the challenges the future holds for our mountain wild lands.

Join us for a spectacular hiking adventure in the Canadian Rockies! Hike along some of the world's most beautiful mountain trails and reach some of the most accessible summits and viewpoints of the Rockies. Led by experienced guides, you can hike a different location each day. Hike the world-famous Crypt Lake Trail in Waterton National Park where the Rockies meet the Prairies. Scramble up the castle-shaped Crowsnest Mountain for a view that extends more than 100 miles. Stroll for miles in the foothills of the Rockies without even leaving the Ranch property. Cross the Continental Divide through the historic Crowsnest Pass to the spectacular British Columbia Rockies just an hour away. Along the way explore the significance of the Frank Slide, one of Canada's most cataclysmic natural disaster sites.

This is an active program with daily hikes on mountain trails and varied terrain. Distance and elevation gain vary daily. Each day's hike will be determined by the group's ability and wishes allowing participants to feel comfortable at all times. You'll be joined by professional staff that draw on years of teaching and guiding in the outdoors to ensure your program is a great learning experience.

Your hiking guide, Bernie Palmer is owner/operator of Natural Pursuits and outdoor adventure company specializing in trekking adventures for women. She worked in 'Outward Bound' type programs introducing troubled youth to canoeing/kayaking, hiking, mountaineering, and backcountry skiing. Today, she is happiest sitting atop a mountain or trekking along a beautiful stream somewhere in the wilderness. In addition Bernie has published ten books and co-authored six. She currently volunteers for "Ground Search and Rescue" and gains new knowledge and skills everyday in rescue procedures and techniques. Activities may be booked from June to September to fit your itinerary.
