Horse Lover's Paradise: Riding and Authentic Alberta Ranch Life
This program is based on an authentic working ranch bisected by the
Oldman River between Waterton Lakes and Banff National Park, 2 hours southwest
of Calgary, in the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. This region
in southwest Alberta features grasslands, scenic forests back dropped
by towering summits of the Rockies. Although this program leans towards
the more experienced rider it can accommodate riders of all levels.
Time-honoured traditions of ranching and cowboy life are the daily
norm on the Anchor B Ranch. Scenic trail rides and participation in ranch
life on horseback (moving, sorting and doctoring cattle, and checking
fences) will be available daily with experienced trail guides and ranchers.
During special weeks cattle drives, brandings, and attendance at the local
professional rodeo are available. Walks along the Oldman River will give
you an appreciation for the prairie and grassland birds and flora of the
ranch. Or just put your feet up and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Your trail guide, Bernie Palmer grew up in the heart of the BC Wilderness
in a Big Game Outfitting Camp and has been comfortable in both western
and English riding since the age of six. She wrangled horses for outfitters
and competed heavily in rodeos and equestrian events throughout her youth.
Regardless of the vacation you booked at Anchor B we can accommodate
side trips of any nature. Enjoy a day trip to Waterton Lakes National
Park for hikes such as the world-famous Crypt Lake Trail, take time out
for a bit of flyfishing or a trail ride, or just enjoy a nature photography
walk. Your days at the ranch can be customized to suit your individual
tastes. Activities may be booked from June to September to fit your itinerary.
